SIM Card & Internet in Phu Quoc — The 2026 Guide
By Alex Nguyen · Updated May 2026 · 5 min read
A working data connection makes Phu Quoc far easier — for maps while you ride around the island, for booking and for messaging us on WhatsApp. Here is how to get online quickly and cheaply.
Best network: Viettel
Viettel has the strongest, widest coverage on Phu Quoc — including the northern roads and remote beaches where other networks weaken. If you plan to explore beyond town, Viettel is the safest pick. Vinaphone and Mobifone are also fine around Duong Dong and Long Beach. All three offer cheap, data-heavy tourist packages.
Where to buy & how much
- At the airport: SIM counters in arrivals — quickest option, slightly higher price.
- Official shops in Duong Dong: best prices and proper registration.
- Convenience stores: widely available across the island.
Expect to pay roughly 100,000-200,000 VND ($4-$8) for a tourist package with plenty of high-speed data for a week or two. Bring your passport — SIM registration is legally required in Vietnam.
eSIM — connect before you land
If your phone supports eSIM, apps like Airalo or Holafly let you buy a Vietnam plan in advance and connect the moment you arrive — handy for getting your airport bike delivery sorted without hunting for a SIM counter. It is convenient but usually costs more per GB than a local SIM.
Staying online while you ride
Download Google Maps offline for Phu Quoc before you set off, mount your phone on the handlebars (we include a holder with every rental), and you will have navigation even in patchy-signal areas up north. WiFi is common in hotels, cafés and restaurants, but mobile data is what keeps you moving on the road.
